Julie Luke is an emerging visionary artist based out of Tacoma, Washington. She creates whimsical spiritual paintings that evoke her ideals of being boundless and one with spirit. She uses bold patterning, and intense contrast to express her distinct works of art. Julie’s works have been exhibited in galleries and art venues throughout the Pacific Northwest, including a commission for the private gallery of the Dr.Martens U.S. Headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

Born on June 18, 1980 in Port Angeles, Washington, Julie was the eighth of nine children, and formal art culture was not accessible to her as a child. She began creating time based ecological art at the age of five years old and began to educate herself in painting when she was fifteen. Julie’s artistic beginning evolved from an innate means to express her distinctive voice amongst a repressive environment. Julie states that the world she would travel to while creating was pure and loving full of otherworldly expression and freedom. Her inherent talent to express and create was influenced by her father, who was a self taught blue collar artist; Julie’s father is still her favorite artist and key inspiration to date.

Julie never imagined her art would later bring her a life as a professional artist, but blissfully welcomes the many exciting and healing opportunities it brings. Julie is currently working on several bodies of art, including The re-calibration of light and dark 2012.

On Saturday, February 23rd, Cella Gallery is delighted to present Something Wicked This Way Comes, a provocative group exhibition featuring multiple works from 10 innovative artists handpicked by Contemporary Art Curator, Stephanie Chefas.

A celebratory mix of the surreal and macabre, Something Wicked This Way Comes, delves the senses into ominous worlds and forsaken dreams. The exhibit is a composition of some of the most powerful contemporary artists whose inherent aesthetic is both visually rebellious and viscerally seductive. "Each artist was chosen based on their dark allure and ability to transform what naturally repels us into something utterly captivating," states Chefas. "By consistently pushing conventional norms, these artists are simultaneously challenging the viewer as well as themselves."

Through an assemblage of mixed media works, oil paintings, watercolor and graphite drawings, Something Wicked This Way Comes features the talent of Annie Owens, Christian Rex van Minnen, Christine Wu, Chrystal Chan, David Ball, Fulvio Di Piazza, Jana Brike, Jessica Ward, Judith Supine, and Michael Page. Expect to feel the hairs on your neck stand straight up; for something wicked this way comes.

Nevermore @ Modern Eden Gallery

Modern Eden Gallery Presents:

Inspirations from Poe's Raven

403 Francisco Street San Francisco, CA 94133

(415) 956-3303

Opening night Saturday, December 15, 2012

6:00-10:00 pm in PDT

Show runs December 15th - Januray 6th 2013

Modern Eden Gallery is pleased to announce “Nevermore” a group show inspired by Poe’s “The Raven”. "The Raven" is often noted for its dark and supernatural atmosphere and has been inspiring artists since it’s first publication in 1845. It tells the tale of a talking raven's mysterious visit to a distraught lover, documenting the man's slow fall into madness. The lover, is lamenting the loss of his love, Lenore. Sitting on a bust of Pallas, the raven seems to perpetuate his distress with its constant repetition of the word "Nevermore".

For Nevermore, our artists are taking their own inspirations from the classic work and dissecting elements and themes from the work. From portraits of the mysterious Lenore, to the stone cold bust of Pallas, alongside portraits of the loquacious raven and even Edgar Allen Poe himself, the gallery walls will house works inspired by one of the most famous poems ever written.

Featuring works by Lara Dann, Jaclyn Alderete, Lacey Bryant, Layil Umbralux, Ashley Bell, Melissa Morgan, Kassie McMahon, Shawn Kawa, Aniela Sobieski, Lucy Hillenbrand, Cayetano G. Valenzuela, Michael Foley, Jeffrey Felker, Ransom & Mitchell, Sheri Jurnecka, Cory Benhatzel, Sherry DeLorme, Jessica Ward, Akira Beard, Derek Harrison, Timo Hanley, Patrushka, Joseph Kohls, Adam Rozan, Corey Urlacher, Brianna Angelakis, Craig LaRotonda, Leon Loucheur, Mary Syring, Edward Cao, Catherine Moore, Shannon Amidon, Daisy Church, James Marc, Alice Savage, Derrick Scocchera, and Debra J. Gardner Abarca.

The opening reception for "Nevermore” will be held at Modern Eden on Saturday, December 15th from 6-10pm. The exhibition will be on display through January 6, 2013 and is free and open to the public. Complimentary beverages will be served by Three Wishes Winery and Rolling Rock. There will be a live DJ set by DJ Brendan J. during the reception. Featured solo artist, Leilani Bustamante will be in attendance. Featured artists will be in attendance.

Curated by Aunia Kahn & Russell J. Moon, and hosted at the wonderful Modern Eden Gallery each artist brings their interpretation of a "Moon Goddess" to the walls of the gallery. Lighting your night with passion, celestial visions, and all encompassing creativity.

Having been photographed, painted, sculpted, costumed, and brought about in every medium to secure her mystical allure into eternity -- it is no wonder why we adore her presence. With this exhibition the artists have taken all her nature, and created artwork based on the "moon".
